Accommodation facilities are complex, both in terms of design and construction, and represent a real challenge for eco-sustainable architecture. They are energy-consuming buildings, often marked by forms and materials that do not fall within a holistic design approach and are separated from their territory.
Design plays a very important role in supporting sustainability, through the development of structures compatible with the changing seasons (geographical orientation, height and level of floors), which use natural resources from the region (geothermal and solar energy, water-to-water heat pumps), are built using regional methods and materials and with forms that support the land and the view of the landscape; structures able to treat the guests not as customers but as “living beings”.
Sustainable design must seek dialogue with the external world, must be conceived and realised as an integral part of the surrounding environment, from the general atmosphere (lighting, music and colours) to the building details.
Arcihtect Alberto Apostoli will illustrate such concepts through a number of case histories and the presentation of the eco-sustainable hotel model, being built on Lake Garda.
The model will be created by Rubner (Sia Guest exhibitor).
